My Life as an Author

We asked W. V. J Elliott a few questions about her life as an author...

How do you deal with writer’s block?
I pull away and do something else.  Sitting in the garden, taking in the smells and appreciating the environment around me helps me to refocus and gives me the inspiration I need.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
To be able to pour all of my built up imagination into a story and to share this imagination with others.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
1. To have the belief in yourself that you have the ability to do it.
2. Never give up on your dreams.
3. Carry a notebook with you everywhere you go because everyday life provides writers with invaluable inspiration and it's best to note it down at the time, rather than relying on memory.

What are you currently working on?
My 2nd and 3rd books in the Mallowbrook Hollow series.

How do you get inspired to write?
It just flows from within me.  All of my stories start as a mixed up muddle in my head. It's only when I start to write, that they unfold clearly.  Each story is an adventure.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Partly from a story I used to think through in my head as a child, when I couldn't get to sleep.  My Dad used to say "Wendy, think of the fairies", so I did!  As a child I never managed to get to the end of this story before I fell asleep - yes, it was that magical!

I felt it was time to actually give this story the ending it deserved and  when, after Christmas 2014 I was left feeling that it would be nice if there was an annual event that celebrated the birth of summer, I decided to combine the two...

From this, Ellimas was born.
